Research interests: My research centers on movie musicals, but considers them in relation to other media such as radio, television, recording and playback technologies, video sharing sites, and sheet music, as well as the queer practices of performance and reception these adjacent media bring with them.  In no particular order, I am interested more generally in: silent cinema, technological transition, sound and the voice, new media, queer theory and history, sociolinguistics, reception studies, and phenomenology.
