Weihong Bao, assistant professor, received her Ph.D. from University of Chicago in 2006. She taught at Ohio State University (2006-2007) and Columbia University (2007-2012) before joining the faculty at Berkeley. Her teaching and research interests cover late Qing visual and performance culture, Chinese language cinema of all periods and regions, contemporary screen and exhibition practice as well as transnational genre cinema, international film theory, and the intersection between film and media. Her book, Dances of Fire: Aesthetic Affect and the Intermediation of Chinese Cinema, 1884-1945, is forthcoming from the University of Minnesota Press. She has started a second book project on the historical interaction between Chinese cinema, theater, and architecture. Her writings appear in such journals as Camera Obscura, Nineteenth Century Theater and Film, Opera Quarterly, The Journal of Chinese Cinemas, The Journal of Modern Chinese Literature, American Anthropologist, and Yingshi wenhua.
